Step One: Getting Started
Why do you need a resume?There are many reasons to write your resume. Why do you want a resume? It is easier to write a resume if you know why you want it.
Look at the checklist below and check all the answers that apply to you.
You are looking for a job in the same occupation as you had in your home country.
You are looking for any job in any occupation.
You have been told by employer that you must have a resume to apply for a job.
You have found a job advertisement that you want to apply for.
You are just interested in writing a resume to be ready for your job search in the future.
You have never had or needed a resume before.
What information do you need for your resume?
If this is your first resume, you need to think about what to put in it and then gather the information. You’ll need the following information:
- The title of all your job positions
- The name and location of the company(s) you worked for
- A detailed description of your duties for each position
- The start date and end date (month and year) for each position
- A list of all your education and training
- The name and location of the places you studied
- The date (month and year) you finished your studies
